GAME DESCRIPTION
Definitions:
• King Bolola - King Bolola - A card game consisting of 24 rounds, generally referred to as a GAME. It is played with a 52-card deck.
• Each ROUND – is a name for a play conducted according to specific rules described below.
• DEALING – the process of distributing a set of cards to players for a round.
• DEALER – The player who is granted the right to choose the round (contract) and make the first move in that deal.
Basic provisions:
• A game round is played by 4 Players
• Each Player receives 13 cards and plays independently throughout the round.
• The rank of cards in all rounds is in ascending order (two being the lowest, ace being the highest).
• Each Player must contract for 6 rounds during a Game:
◦ 3 negative
◦ 2 positive
◦ 1 Bolola round (negative or positive)
• The goal of the game is to score enough points to achieve the highest possible positive balance. A game is considered:
◦ Won - for the Player with a positive balance
◦ Drawn - for the Player with a zero balance
◦ Lost - for the Player with a negative balance
GAME RULES
No Tricks
-650
The objective of this round is to avoid taking any tricks.
• For each trick taken, players are penalized 50 points.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for the round is: -50 x 13 = -650 points.
• Players can lead with any card.
• If a player lacks the led suit, they can play any card from their hand.
Trump
+650
In Trump rounds, the objective is to take as many tricks as possible using a designated trump suit, which is assigned by the Player starting the round.
• Each trick awards the Player 50 points.
Total possible points for this round: 50 x 13 = 650 points.
• Leading with trumps is forbidden unless:
◦ A trump has been played in a previous trick.
◦ The Player's hand consists solely of trumps.
• If a Player doesn't have a card of the suit led they must play a trump. If they don't have a trump, they can play any card.
• If a trick starts with a trump (when allowed) the subsequent Player must play a higher-ranked trump if they have one. If they don't have a higher-ranked trump, they should play any trump. If they don't have any trumps, they can play any card. The following Players continue with the same rules.
• If a trick starts with any suit that the next Player lacks that Player must play a trump. If they don't have any trumps, they can play any card. The next Player (assuming they also lack the led suit) must then play a higher-ranked trump, if they have one. If not, then any trump. If no trumps are available, any card can be played.
No Boys

The objective of this round is to avoid taking tricks containing Jacks and Kings.
• Players receive a penalty of 60 points for each Jack or King taken.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for the round is: -60 x 8 = -480 points.
• Players can lead with any card, including Jacks or Kings.
• If a player lacks the led suit and has Jacks and/or Kings in hand, they must discard one of these cards. If they have multiple appropriate cards to choose from, they can decide based on the current situation in the round.
• If Jacks and/or Kings are in hand, players must discard them if a higher card of the same suit is played on the table: for Jacks, this means the Queen, King, or Ace, and for Kings, this means the Ace.
No Queens

The objective of this round is to avoid taking tricks containing Queens.
• Players are penalized 100 points for each Queen taken.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for the round is: -100 x 4 = -400 points.
• Players can lead with any card, including Queens.
• If a player lacks the led suit and has a Queen, they must play it. If they have multiple Queens, they can decide which to play based on the current situation in the round.
• If a Queen is in hand, players must play it if a higher card of the same suit (King or Ace) is played on the table.
No Hearts

The objective of this round is to avoid taking tricks containing cards from the Hearts suit.
• Players are penalized 30 points for each Heart taken.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for the round is: -30 x 13 = -390 points.
• Players are prohibited from leading with the Hearts suit unless two conditions are met:
◦ A Heart has been played previously in the round.
◦ The player only has Hearts left in hand.
• If a player lacks the led suit and has a Heart, they must play it.
No Last Two
-360
The objective of this round is to avoid taking the last two tricks in the draw.
• Players are penalized 120 points for taking the penultimate trick and 240 points for the last trick.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for this round is: -120 + (-240) = -360 points.
• Players can lead with any card. If a player lacks the led suit, they may play any card from their hand, regardless of its suit or value.
No King
-320
The objective of this round is to avoid taking a trick that includes the King of hearts.
• The player who takes the trick with the King of hearts incurs a penalty of 320 points.
Therefore, the total potential penalty for this round is -320 points.
• When playing this round, players are not allowed to lead with the hearts suit if they have cards of other suits in hand. Leading with hearts is permissible in two situations:
◦ Once the first card of the hearts suit has been played to the table.
◦ If a player has no cards of any other suits in their hand.
• If a player holds the King of hearts and lacks the led suit, they must play the King of hearts.
• If a player has heart cards and lacks the led suit, they should play their heart cards before any other suits.
Bolola -
-800
The objective of this round is to avoid taking any of the specified cards and tricks during the draw.
• Players are penalized points for each unwanted card or trick they take:
◦ For each trick: -15 points
◦ For each Jack and King: -20 points
◦ For each Queen: -30 points
◦ For each Heart card: -10 points
◦ For the penultimate trick: -40 points
◦ For the last trick: -60 points
◦ For the King of Hearts: -95 points
Total possible penalty for this round: (-15 x 13) + (-20 x 8) + (-30 x 4) + (-10 x 13) + (-40) + (-60) + (-95) = -800 points
• Players must follow the rules from all the rounds mentioned previously:
◦ Leading with the hearts suit is prohibited unless conditions allow.
◦ Kings, Jacks, Queens, Heart cards, and the King of Hearts must be played when demanded, but players have discretion on the order based on the round's progression.
◦ Kings, Jacks, and Queens must be played under cards of higher rank from the same suit (refer to respective round descriptions for details).
Bolola +

In the Bolola round, the objective is to capture all possible points during the course of play, including all tricks, Kings, Jacks, Queens, hearts, the penultimate trick, and the King of Hearts.
• For each such trick the Player is awarded plus points
◦ For each trick taken: +15 points
◦ For taking each King or Jack: +20 points
◦ For taking each Queen: +30 points
◦ For taking each Heart: +10 points
◦ For taking the penultimate trick: +40 points
◦ For taking the last trick: +60 points
◦ For taking the King of Hearts: +95 points
•Total possible points for this round: 15 x 13 + 20 x 8 + 30 x 4 + 10 x 13 + 40 + 60 + 95 = 800 points
• Leading with the suit of Hearts is restricted.
• Players can only lead with Hearts after the first Heart has been played or if they have no cards from other suits in their hand.
